Arterial Dissection Case Study: The Sad Case of Model Katie May

Up and coming professional model (having already appeared in Playboy and garnered more than one million followers on Instagram) Katie May completely understood that the sets on a photo shoot can get pretty busy, pretty hectic, and more than a little bit cluttered.

On a shoot, Katie took a bit of a tumble and smacked her neck pretty hard – and woke up the next day feeling a little bit worse for wear. Icing it down, taking over-the-counter pain medications, and generally hoping for the best, Katie tried to push through this nagging injury for about a week or so before she decided to visit a chiropractor.

She was dead a little bit less than 24 hours later.

What caused the death of Katie May?

Katie May’s Autopsy Results

Even though the original report from the medical officer that performed the autopsy on Katie stated that she had passed away from a stroke, doctors that dug a little deeper into the root cause of how a young woman with an otherwise crystal-clear medical history could have died from a stroke uncovered something really important – something really sinister.

It turns out that Katie and her visit to the chiropractor may have been the biggest contributing factor to her death. Later autopsies confirmed that she had died from a blood clot that had shot up into her brain. The reason that this blood clot had formed in the first place, however, was because of how the adjustment was handled at the chiropractor.

Chiropractic Visits Carry Risks

Chiropractic AdjustmentEven though most people would consider chiropractors to be some of the safest “medical professionals” to visit, the truth of the matter is that a chiropractor without a proper diagnosis can cause just as much damage than any surgeon with a scalpel. While they don’t perform any invasive surgery, chiropractors manipulate your vertebrae, the key components in your central nervous system.

Negligent Chiropractors Can Kill

Chiropractors that are inexperienced or negligent can cause unexpected damage and even death. Before visiting a chiropractor, patients should check his or her credentials and browse reviews to find out how others have fared with this particular doctor. One wrong move by a chiropractor can have serious repercussions.

Holding Chiropractors Accountable for Negligence

If you or a loved one has suffered at the hands of a chiropractor, the chiropractor should be held accountable for their negligence. Experienced lawyers will fight on your behalf to make sure that justice is served in these kinds of situations. This may help to deter chiropractic negligence in the future and prevent others from being injured or killed.
